Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Fluent (“the app”) is an AI voice tutor for English speaking practice, published by pLim/lab (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what data the app processes and why. We keep data collection to a minimum, we do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we never sell your data.
Who we are (Data Controller)
The data controller for the purposes of the EU/UK GDPR and the Swiss FADP is:
pLim/lab, Switzerland

What data we process
- Microphone audio / voice: When you start a session, the app records your speech so you can converse with the AI tutor and so we can analyse your pronunciation, grammar and fluency. Speech input is the core feature of the app.
- Speech transcripts / user content: Text derived from your speech, and your responses during a session, used to generate feedback, session reports and next-day drills.
- Usage data: Basic information about how you use the app (for example, sessions started or completed, features used) to measure progress and improve the app.
- Diagnostics: Crash and performance logs to keep the app stable.
We do not require an account, email address, name, or phone number to use version 1 of the app.
How your speech is processed
- Where your device supports it, speech recognition runs on-device using Apple’s Speech framework.
- To hold a natural conversation and produce detailed feedback, some audio and/or transcript data is sent securely over HTTPS to our AI tutor service. This processing happens only to provide the feature you requested.
Legal basis (GDPR)
- Performance of a service / your consent for processing microphone and speech data to deliver the practice session (Art. 6(1)(b) and, for microphone access, your explicit in-app permission).
- Legitimate interests for diagnostics and aggregated usage analytics to keep the app working and improve it (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Data retention
- Audio and transcripts are processed to generate your feedback and are retained only as long as needed to provide the feature and your progress history, then deleted or anonymised.
- Diagnostic and aggregated usage data are kept for a limited period for stability and improvement, in aggregated or non-identifying form where possible.
Sharing
- We use a limited number of service providers (for example, our AI tutor backend and hosting) strictly to operate the app. They process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers. The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
International transfers
We are based in Switzerland. Where data is transferred outside Switzerland or the EEA, we rely on recognised safeguards (such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses).
Children
Fluent is intended for a general audience (rated 4+) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@plimlab.ch. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in Switzerland, the FDPIC).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
